On Friday (September 2), the first two episodes of The Lord of the Rings: Ring of Power premiered on Prime Video.
Ahead of the long-awaited premiere, fans went wild with a fake opening scene that bears a striking resemblance to many retro sitcoms and soap operas.
The viral clip shows an arrangement in which the series' characters dramatically turn to the camera before going black - a much cheaper deal than the actual opening sequence.
"Apparently, this is the intro to the new LOTR show...here's what his $750 million buys you," a popular tweet mistakenly reads.
Mashable points out that the video is actually a mashup of images from an Entertainment Weekly promotion. But that didn't stop the parody.
One viewer concluded that the opener looked exactly like the 2000s Australian comedy Cass & Kim, which superimposed the show's theme song over footage of dwarves, elves, and more.
Another noted that it resembled a community joke scene.
Other offerings included Too Many Cooks and the soap opera The Young and the Restless.
Others, on the other hand, have decided to memeize the original clip. “This is what it feels like to be high in a mall with passers-by,” reads a popular tweet.
"Nine pints deep to show your bro your favorite kebab menu," another writes at the end of the clip, with Charles Edwards gesticulating in the distance.
